How long do you think it'll take for the U.S. economy to improve?

Yes, I can. I believe it will take 9-10 months to level off this econ. The president has taken some bold, but wise steps towards this end. After 30 yrs. of abuse and strangulation of our nation by mostly republicans duping average americans to worship at the altar of Wall st. and giving them loud, pompous promises of an america our ancestors would have been horrified to view iy's going to take some TLC. to bring this poor nation back to sanity and healing from the hands of those who would have killed it.             DanaThera

I just answered this Featured Question; you can answer it too!

I don't think it will improve because they are not addressing the corruption that lies at the root of it all. Throwing money at the symptom (money we don't have) is not an answer, it's like giving a herion addict more herion. The big 3 will soon fail as well.

Obama will be a reprise of Carter, only magnified. George Soros, no friend of Republicans, believes that Obama's and the Fed's policies will lead to hyper-inflation. I've read the same thing from various economists. Carter, a principled man, was the worst president of the 20th century. Obama is cut out of the same cloth. So far his administration looks like a circus. They don't pay their taxes, they're picked straight from Wall St., and some are the most extreme leftists around (principally the White House crowd--the secretaries provide more moderate cover). Obama is constantly apologizing for the U.S. to foreigners and embarassing Americans by doing so, blaming W for everything (how juvenile!), bowing to the Saudi king (ridiculous!), dissing the English P.M. x 2, sucking up to the continental Europeans, practicing scare tactics against American conservatives, and generally acting like a pompous ass. (When he speaks, he seems to have a corncob stuck up his butt.) Senator Byrd is concerned that Obama is doing an end-run around the senate by delegating the real power to his White House cronies and not to the secretaries. It's happened before, but not to this degree.

I don't much like Republicans, but I despise most Democrats. The Republicans are barely on speaking terms with the truth; the Democrats are totally unacquainted with it.

@soccerdadforlife -

I wouldn't say that Carter was the worst pres of the 20th century. I mean, if anyone, it was Hoover, and Coolidge certainly didn't help him any. And honestly, the United States has a really bad wrap when it comes to foreign policy, so I don't blame Obama at all for apologizing for those too stubborn to realize that the U.S. is not the only country in the world, or even the most important one. How does Obama act like a pompous ass? The speeches I've heard him give have been eloquent and, more importantly, sincere.

I do agree, though, that both parties are pretty jacked up in and of themselves.

Despite the bad press, Hoover wasn't the worst president. Virtually all of the New Deal programs were started by Hoover. Hoover made two major mistakes--raising taxes on business (substantially!) and raising tariffs--that severely hurt the economy. However, at the time, nobody knew their impact. FDR raised taxes on business in 1937 which led to the "depression within a depression". Apparently he hadn't learned the lesson.

Carter's mistakes were known at the time. However, he thought he was smarter and arrogantly pushed his failed policies.

Why should the U.S. have an especially bad rap in foreign policy?  All nations make serious policy mistakes; those nations which are more powerful do more harm when they make mistakes. There's nothing inherently more evil in what the U.S. has done, possibly with the exception of coercing other nations to adopt pro-abortion or eco-wacko policies.

What country do you think is more important than the U.S.? What country is the favorite of immigrants?

Leftists typically are self-righteous and arrogant, not to mention ignorant. Furthermore, when you tell them what will happen if their policies are pursued, they disrespect you and ignore the results when history proves the conservatives right.

For example, the Community Reinvestment Act was designed to eliminate red-lining. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Community_Reinvestment_Act However, the changes made by Clinton in 1995 created the instability in the mortgage arena by encouraging sub-prime lending. If you check the subprime foreclosures, minorities outnumber whites by two-to-one, which is not the case for prime foreclosures. Again, ignorant leftist do-gooders cause massive headaches for everybody.

Obama sounds pompous when he patronizes conservatives. If you are a leftist, you probably wouldn't realize it.

Obama has a speech tic--he repeats things that aren't true. http://bloggingheads.tv/diavlogs/19030?in=45:39&out=47:25 I'm sure he sincerely believes that he can fool 60% of the people.

My site is pretty featureless compared to most of yours, I've got to learn to post. B/tw, there's more info about me if you google my name. All of these astute coments which need to be answered on a sleepy, cold, cloudy morning in N.J. (LoL).

@soccerdadforlife - Yout not a rep., but probably a libertarian, correct me if I'm wrong. Obama is a loud and clear reaction to the last adm. by a young generation watching us slowing slipping into an oligarical system with major corps. dictating policy. They were infuriated with the Iraq war which was unnecessary at the time, the isolationism, making the US. look like the bully boy of the world. Finally, abdicating the responibilities of the presidency to the unregulated tyranny of Wall st. and major corps.

@lessthanthreeaB - Good morning, good to have you visit here. I fully agree with you. President Obama brings a freshness, sincerity and a clear eye to eye approach in a contradistinction to the Bush and Cheney approach of boogny prattle. I like Obama as a man and as a president.

@soccerdadforlife - Have to leave for a while, but will be back later.

@errolmartins - Only the left-wingers had the U.S. looking like the bully-boy of the world.

I'm a conservative libertarian, but I'm not convinced that many Americans have any noble character any more that would allow liberty to flourish. Tyranny may be necessary. I thought that my generation was the "me" generation--that we were especially self-indulgent. The current crop of kids go far beyond what my generation did in terms of self-indulgence. Likely they weren't disciplined by their parents. It doesn't bode well for the future.

I think that I've thoroughly debunked your idea that Obama is sincere between what I posted on this site and my post about his supposed sincerity. Only a crank would continue to think that Obama is sincere. Sorry, but you have failed to answer me adequately.

As Winston Churchill said, anyone who is over 30 and a liberal doesn't have a brain. It's trite, but true. It was as I was approaching 30 that I began to unlearn a lot of lies that I had been taught in school. Some people never develop the skills to analyze their own beliefs and prudently judge the words and actions of others--especially politicians. Bush and Cheney never made an attempt to disguise their guile, unlike Obama; hence, I consider them to be far more honest than he, no matter what I think of them otherwise. Liberals are willing to bend over backwards to view other liberals in the best light possible--way beyond what is reasonable. Obama gets an extra break simply because of his race. It's understandable, but I don't feel any obligation to follow that way of thinking, nor do I consider it to be honorable.

The Iraq War/occupation was a brilliant stroke to attack Iran culturally, similar in brilliance to Reagan's Star Wars gambit and his economic war against the Soviets. It will be a while before we see the endgame of the Iraq gambit.

I was glad to see Carmen on CNBC take on the credit card companies. Too bad conservatives won't do so--usury is anti-biblical.

Oh, I have to give the Bush admin. credit for attempting to call attention to the sub-prime problem starting in '07. Too bad the Dems fought them on this. Funny how the left-wing media (NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC) fail to mention this.
